If you don't feel comfortable with the command line, or If you want to copy the WAD graphically, open a terminal and type "gksudo nautilus" which will open Nautilus with permission to move a file to the right directory. (Some sites have thousands of WADs.) Then copy the WAD you want to run to the /usr/share/games/doom directory. If you want to run other WADs, you'll need to find them on the Internet (very easy through Google) and download them. You can start it from the Dash: just open the Dash, type the first couple letters of "Chocolate-Doom", and then choose the icon.ģ. Without additional WADs, it'll run the first several levels of the original Doom just fine. It's included in Ubuntu's Software Center, or in this repository: ppa:mjdebruijn/chocolate-doom-release.Ģ. Everything in the same folder.but of course it didn't work.Īny advice would be much appreciated! I played Doom2 when it first came out. I don't want to try anything more at this point til I understand what commands to use better.Īs an alternative thing to try I copied all the installed files into a new folder in my home folder, then clicked on the copy of the executable file. (I used my user name instead of just "user" - would that upset it?) had a brief go at moving them with sudo mv or gksudo command.but perhaps I was typing the filepaths incorrectly. Would this work? Problem is that I can't paste them in either place because I don't have root priviliges for either folder.

(named Doom2.wad etc) At the moment these are in my home folder in a folder called "game info." (/home/game info)Īll the guidelines I have read point to putting these wad files in "the same directory as the executable file" - which I assume to mean straight into the usr/games/chocolate-doom folder, or the share one.? I managed to get hold of some actual doom wad files - for Doom 1, 2 and 3. Clicking on chocolate-doom starts up the Doom title screen with music, then the screen goes black and then the window closes again) usr/games/chocolate-doom (Files are all executable game files. usr/share/games/doom/ (Files inside named: doom1.wad and prboom.wad) usr/share/doc/chocolate-doom (Documents inside named: Bugs,, changelog.gz, copyright, news.gz, README and TODO This installed files in the following places. I have Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, and installed "chocolate-doom" using the Ubuntu Software Centre. I've been trying to figure this out for hours
